Notes from practice

Thoughts on technology, governance and everyday decisions.

01Governance & innovation

Governance makes innovation scalable.

The question is not whether to innovate. It is how an institution can learn, scale and remain accountable.

Read perspective

Innovation needs room to test assumptions. Governance gives those tests a purpose: who owns the decision, what evidence matters, and what would justify scaling or stopping.

A useful governance model distinguishes between a reversible experiment and a consequential institutional commitment. The controls should match the exposure, rather than treat every initiative alike.

For boards and executive teams, the conversation should connect strategic relevance, risk appetite and operational readiness. This is how innovation becomes a repeatable organizational capability.

02Technology & AI oversight

AI oversight begins with the decision.

Before asking which model to deploy, ask which decision or service should improve.

Read perspective

An AI proposal should identify the business decision it supports, the people affected and the responsibility that remains with the organization.

Data quality, human oversight and the ability to challenge an output deserve attention alongside productivity. An efficient process that weakens accountability is not an unqualified improvement.

Leadership should establish when a result requires review, how exceptions are handled and what evidence will show that the use case is creating value.

03Organizational resilience

Resilience belongs in the operating model.

Continuity is stronger when it is designed into day-to-day decisions.

Read perspective

Resilience depends on the relationships between services, teams, suppliers, data and decision rights. A plan alone cannot resolve unclear ownership.

Operating-model design should make critical dependencies visible, define escalation and test the assumptions behind recovery. These are leadership questions as much as technical ones.

The most useful executive discussion connects the level of service the institution must sustain with the capabilities and investment required to sustain it.
